Cambree

Cambree is now one week old. I can't believe how fast it has gone and then on the other hand how time has just stopped for awhile since we are in our own little baby world.
We were scheduled to go in for an induction on my due date, December 29. We went in at 7:00 am and tried to see if they could just break my water and see if I would start into labor on my own, but I had not progressed enough for them to do that. So they hooked me up to Pitocen around 9:30 and we went walking around for about an hour. The contractions really started coming and so my doctor broke my water. Then the contractions slowed down for a little while and then went back up. Even though I wanted the least amount of fluid possible, I decided to get an epidural and enjoy the rest of labor. It was a great decision. Around 3:00 pm I would have a contraction and baby's heart rate would go WAY down so the nurses ran in and checked me and monitored for awhile. But then 3 contractions later she was just fine. But I was at a 10 and ready so my doctor (Janowiack) came in and we started pushing. I pushed through 3 contractions and she was here at 4:38 pm. The umbillical cord was wrapped around her neck once so that's why her heartrate was going down. They immediately put her skin to skin on me. That's the first time I've been able to have my baby handed right to me. It was the most amazing feeling. I had an instant bond with her right then. I was nervous because I never felt close or bonded to her during pregnancy but the minute she was here it just happened. She cried a little bit and then was just quiet. The nurses were trying to get her to cry more but she was nice and pink and just happy to be with mom, so they stopped worrying. They cleaned her up right there so I just got to hold her for what felt like forever. She was so small that I didn't have any stitches to take care of, however my placenta was a mess. My Dr. said she was so glad I delivered that day because the placenta was falling apart and wouldn't have lasted much longer! She showed it to me and it was just thin and pretty nasty. Weird!! I nursed her for the first time and she did a perfect job...I was impressed. It's amazing that they just know what to do.

They finally had to take her from me and get measurements and a bath. She was 6 lbs. 10 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long. The nurse who came in gave her a full bath (not just a sponge bath) and she LOVED it. Loved being back in fluid I guess :) I ate my dinner then because I was starving!! The kids and my mom and dad came in right after she had her bath. Allie was just ready to hold her right away and did a wonderful job. Katelyn held her too but was more interested in me and all the buttons, bracelets, and the IV in my arm. She kept asking if baby Cambree was in my belly, even right after she held Cambree! Haha, silly girl! They left shortly after since it was their bedtime. We waited until I could feel my legs again and we went to the recovery room and fed her again and went to bed! They took her for the night so we could sleep though. I was on crutches for the day but I couldn't believe how great I felt. I hardly had any pain and could move around. I wasn't on strong meds so I felt like myself and wasn't so drowsy.

They told us we could leave 24 hours after delivery which we were super happy about so we hung out the next day while doctors and a million people came in and out of the room. We had our fabulous celebratory dinner. Doug's parents came by to meet her and chat for awhile which was very nice and the kids came again with my parents. And sure enough we were discharged around 6 pm on Monday.
